September: Revealing Selves—When guest curator, Vaughn Lewis, gallerist and preparator for MagnanMetz Gallery (NYC) selected the PhotoArt N*des for September 2012, he did the job swiftly and surely using the electronic lightbox invented by Barebrush founder and CEO, Ilene Skeen. The lightbox makes the job of art selection and arrangement easier and more efficient. Eighteen artists world-wide submitted 267 photographs, and Mr. Lewis’ task was to select 30 for the 30 days of September.
To start the month, he chose Aspects of Narcissus No. 10 by William Thierfelder of Bayport, NY. Almost to himself he mused, “I like this. We all have something of Narcissus about us.”
In his personal statement for the September art selection, Mr. Lewis wrote:Through spontaneity and directness, what’s gone and what’s left behind, I am interested in the investigation of love, anger, compassion, grace. The artist has a lot to say. I will be listening.
Indeed, looking at each of the photographic selections for September, we see a concentration of subject and attitude. In contrast to the overt emotional theme of the N*des-of-the-Month calendar, the PhotoArt N*des calendar is circumspect. It is about feelings one step removed. Our responses to these images show us by implication who we are and where we stand, sit or crawl.
One photograh is being retired in this calendar, having been selected now for three calendars, Abstract Mounds by BlindWolf Photography, T. F. McDonald of Lexington, KY.
The 30 artists represented in September, 2012, in day order are:
1 William Thierfelder, 2 Guenter Knop, 3 Tony Lee, 4 Tony Lee, 5 Dan McCormack, 6 Joseph Mays, 7 William Thierfelder, 8 William Thierfelder, 9 David Morrow, 10 William Thierfelder, 11 Peter Wong King, 12 Anonymous, 13 Anonymous, 14 Peter Wong King, 15 BlindWolf Photography, T. Viewers can also vote for “My Favorite PhotoArt N*de,” a poll which includes all of the art in the calendar. The top three artworks in My Favorite PhotoArt N*de win one (1) complementary listing for their artists. Winners announced October 1st.
The Barebrush Provenance for each artwork is viewable by clicking on the calendar thumbnail (above) or on the caption under the artwork from each artist’s Barebrush Gallery page. The Barebrush program of retiring artworks that have been selected for three calendars is designed to encourage all artists to show their best new work and keep their online galleries fresh and interesting.
