Guest curator for November is award-winning artist, Ronnie Cutler, signature member of the American Watercolor Society, and member of the Salamgundi Club, and Pen and Brush. Ronnie studied at the Art Students League in the 1950's and has spent a lifetime painting.
Ronnie made many comments about the art as she selected November's work. She recognized Jacqui Morgan as a "true master" of watercolor and chose three of Jacqui's pieces, especially favoring Profile... Pinup or classic? About Jacqui's Grace and Strength, she said, "The more you look at it, the better it gets." Ronnie called African Drum #3 by Donelli J. DiMaria a masterpiece, saying "It's not my style of painting, but I know perfection when I see it." She liked the rhythm of Surviver by Tony Lee. She praised Nina Kuriloff for her originality and Emily Rich for consistency in color and design. She liked The Birds and the Bees by Lucinda Luvaas, saying it has tremendous space and holds it. She said Chanit Roston's Bending over Backwards is original and unusual. And for the November's strong finale, Ronnie chose Jean Marcellino's, Sad Beth.
Ronnie, not "a computer person," and primarily a landscape painter, enjoyed the selection process and chose her own work, I am Woman, Hear Me Roar, as jury of selection to launch November. Painted many years ago, it was recently exhibited at Pen and Brush for Women's History Month.
