| Desc: | I paint flesh, and the paintings have the texture of flesh, smooth at times like marble, or pulled and dragged like old tar. In sadness there can be pleasure, in happiness pain, in violence humor. I portray this varied experience by combining rich color and luscious handling of paint with imagery that appears both sensuous and painful. In content and form, they are not dissimilar to 17th century Dutch still life paintings. As in a Memento Mori, each image contains a luxury for the senses, but it is a sensuality with an implicit vulnerability, an awareness of death. |
