| Hippomenes prayed to Venus, the goddess of love, for help, who assisted him to win the race and Atalanta's hand in marriage. Here we see Hippomenes at the starting mark before the race. This is part of a series of paintings of Greek mythology which are a contemporary interpretation of the ancient stories. I have chosen to employ conteporary looking models acting out the myths, creating a tension between the two which suggests the tensions of the moderm world. |
