Although his recent work is landscape based in subject, he says, "the nude as the centerpiece of an artist’s renderings speaks to the core of my life long experience”.
Robert's work exhibits a multi discipline of numerous mediums: watercolor, acrylic with oil glazes, graphite and colored pencil mixed with beeswax. Each work combines modernist and classical allusions, possessing a visual beauty and aesthetic cohesion of the two.
The drawings have a subtle power with their many fine lines creating a mood that is both dramatic and full of movement. They capture you and transform a literal translation of landscape to a nonrepresentational arrangement.
His technique is a cross between impressionistic and realistic. Sometimes the drawings appear almost as photographs, others have a stillness and mystery that sweeps you away to a world of the unknown. He handles the pencil and brush like a lens twisting in and out of focus carrying you in and out of the detail.
