Summer Marathon: Undressed to the Nines—When Robert W. Pillsbury, artist, teacher and First Vice President of the Salmagundi Club completed the selection the art for July and August, he exclaimed, “I think it’s a good job.” After a pause, he continued, smiling, “Looking at the works I selected, yes, I see my sensibilities.”
Mr. Pillsbury liked the images and effects of Dan McCormack’s pinhole camera and chose Katie_W_6-09-11--11AD standing casually outdoors against a hedge, to launch the month. He selected several pieces by Peter King of New Mexico, including Eurocat and her shadow, King’s arresting reminiscence of Georgia O'Keeffe (1887-1986). Also notable is the sinewy young man languidly entwined on hanging vines in Relax by Tony Lee of Panama. Three works eloquently celebrate undressed in pregnancy: Signs of life by Guenter Knop of New York and Fertility Goddess and Warmth, both by Janet E. Gorman of New York. Mr. Pillsbury chose Midnite by Corrie Ancone of Australia saying “I like her work.”
Other notable undressings are: the ghostly, Blue by T. F. McDonald of Kentucky; undressed in tattoos, Graceful Seduction by Angelique Moselle Price of Tennessee; undressed with scotch, How Do I Go On? by Dan Simoneau, ISAP, of Wisconsin; and undressed with flowers, TINTERN’S MAN No. 12 by William Thierfelder of New York.
Six photographs are retiring with this calendar, having now been chosen for three calendars: the model dressed in mirrors, Cubism Glass and dressed in dignity, The signs of life by Guenter Knop of New York; the model dressed in colored lights, Seven Kinds Of Morning by Joseph Mays of Kentucky; in darkness, The Light by Janet E. Gorman of New York; in a maze of loneliness, The Crack by Gabriel Sanchez of Mexico; and in striking sensuality, Casey by Matthew Smith of New York.
One artist, Mike Rudahl from Albuquerque, NM is making his calendar debut, undressed with a light sword in his self-portrait nude, Alien Attack!
